Web Sites - Existing

Changing an existing web site

Sometimes a site doesn't need to be changed. There are cases where another piece of the marketing puzzle is lacking and your web site is not the culprit. Aside from marketing, let's discuss your present site.

Primary reasons to modify your site:

General - Logo, color and even company name are outdated
Aesthetic - Old content or old design
Efficiency - Faster loading design, less breakage, edit capabilities
Function - online forms, signup sheets, login accessibility, blogs
Media - sound, movies, interactivity improvements
Search - Optimization for improved search engine performance
Content - More text, new services and products

Why would structure affect upgrading?

Holding back on techno-speak, some sites have been built with image heavy "nested" tables. These older style sites can be labor intensive to convert because much of the text is made up of images, instead of editable html based text.

Flash-based sites are also more costly to upgrade because of the required skill sets and time involvement. The type of Flash sites we are referring to are full Flash sites and not simple html sites that have "some" Flash content - like banners or sidebar advertising.

If your web site needs most of the changes listed above, we will probably recommend a new web site design. Large, wholesale modifications to an existing code structure can prove problematic and more costly than a new site.

A correct solution will be dependent on a review of your existing site. An initial review will help determine any roadblocks to modifiying your site versus creating a new site from scratch. Without getting overly specific - your web site's layout may have been designed without growth considerations. Text boxes may not have room to expand for additional content; Menu space may require redesign when adding pages, etc.

The good news is that many of the general, aesthetic and SEO modifications will require no major reworks when a site is reasonably modern.

Keep in mind "why" you will be making these changes. Try and solve several issues with each modification when possible. If you need to add content - can I improve search engine performance at the same time? If I'm adding media content like audio or video - can I use it to improve customer retention and new sales prospecting?

At this point, we hope we haven't changed your mind about updating your internet presence. A discussion of your goals and a comprehensive review of your site will yield enough information to develop a sense of feasibility. And site changes can produce improved sales performance and functionality.

So the basic steps will involve reviewing your present site and direct consultation with you to uncover your expected results. We'll create a proposal that covers the required steps; time frame and full cost breakdown. It's that simple!
